Two dominant guards in Shay Shippen and Carlie Latta are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Skyline Grizzlies will square off against the Minico Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, Skyline faced Blackfoot in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Skyline walked away with a 50-39 win over Blackfoot. The win made it back-to-back wins for Skyline.
Shippen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 17 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mady Boyce, who scored 13 points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Minico had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They came out on top against Twin Falls by a score of 53-45.
Minico had a senior duo take command as Latta dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds and Jentree Bott scored 14 points. That makes it 21 consecutive games in which Latta has scored at least a third of Minico's points.
Skyline's victory bumped their record up to 17-7. As for Minico, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Skyline hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59.2 points per game. However, it's not like Minico struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57.8 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
