Softball Recap: Estancia Makes It 16 in a Row on the Road

Estancia won against Sandia Prep on Thursday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Bears beat the Logan Longhorns by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 17-2. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by seven runs or more this season.

Jhenna Valencia was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karina Villafuerte, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (four). Ana Cuevas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Estancia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .394 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Estancia pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Logan, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Estancia beat the Longhorns by a score of 15-0 later that day.
