After two games on the road, Calhoun Academy is heading back home. They will take on the Andrew Jackson Academy Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Calhoun Academy didn't have too much trouble with Holly Hill Academy on the road as they won 61-47.
Calhoun Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colt Layton, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five steals. Layton continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Chase Strickland, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Andrew Jackson Academy came up short against Cathedral Academy on Tuesday and fell 68-61. While losing is never fun, Andrew Jackson Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Cathedral Academy is ranked 108th).
Calhoun Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Andrew Jackson Academy, they bumped their record down to 10-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
