Given Central's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Washington Union is ranked 922nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Central to victory were Myron Pondexter-Johnson and Ej Jefferson. Pondexter-Johnson scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Jefferson scored 23 points along with six steals. That's the first time this season that Jefferson scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Kenneth White jr, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Central's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Washington Union, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central will take on Clovis North at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clovis North has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,377 points over their last 18 matchups. As for Washington Union, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Reedley at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
