Makayla Carmichael was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Avery George was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Eastern, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.6 runs over those games.
On Eastern's side, Ashlynn Thomas 2027 spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Emma Putman 2025 and Aedre Ault 2028 did most of the damage at the plate: Putman 2025 went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Ault 2028 went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylie White 2027, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Belpre will challenge Fort Frye at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Eastern, they will head out to challenge Warren at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
