On Wednesday, the Xavier College Prep Gators faced the Hamilton Huskies in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Xavier College Prep strolled past Hamilton with points to spare, taking the game 57-41. The win was familiar territory for Xavier College Prep who now have five in a row.
Sarah Miller was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Irene (Noelle) Guiamatsia, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Hamilton lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Reanna Farrington, who scored nine points along with three steals. Savanna Creal was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Hamilton were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Xavier College Prep only racked up three assists.
Xavier College Prep's win was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 42.77 points. As for Hamilton, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Xavier College Prep will take on Perry at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Perry will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Xavier College Prep is ranked first). Hamilton won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Basha at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Basha is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.2 points per game.
