Mount Vernon is 0-3 against Lake Braddock since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mount Vernon Majors will head out on the road to face off against the Lake Braddock Bruins at 7:00 p.m. Mount Vernon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 171st, while Lake Braddock is ranked 29th).
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Mount Vernon beat Edison 24-19. The win made it back-to-back wins for Mount Vernon.
Hudson Grimsley looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 72 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Lake Braddock stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Robinson 37-7 on the road.
Michael Suris was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 38 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 164 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes.
Mount Vernon's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-5. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Falls Church and 3-7 Lewis (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.7% over those games). As for Lake Braddock, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Mount Vernon came up short against Lake Braddock in their previous meeting back in November of 2019, falling 30-24. Thankfully for Mount Vernon, Joe Murray (who rushed for 242 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
