Mount Vernon is 0-3 against Lake Braddock since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mount Vernon Majors will head out on the road to face off against the Lake Braddock Bruins at 7:00 p.m. Mount Vernon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 171st, while Lake Braddock is ranked 29th).
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Mount Vernon beat Edison 24-19. The win made it back-to-back wins for Mount Vernon.
Hudson Grimsley looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 72 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Lake Braddock stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Robinson 37-7 on the road.
Michael Suris was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 38 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 164 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes.
Mount Vernon's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-5. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Falls Church and 3-7 Lewis (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.7% over those games). As for Lake Braddock, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Mount Vernon came up short against Lake Braddock in their previous meeting back in November of 2019, falling 30-24. Thankfully for Mount Vernon, Joe Murray (who rushed for 242 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
