Whitmer had to settle for second on Monday, but Avery Staples sure wasn't going down easily. Staples was dynamite, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
