Gage McCown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Stanton let Nate Hinojosa and Nathan Armendarez run wild. Hinojosa went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Armendarez went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Stanton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coahoma only managed five.
Meanwhile, Lamesa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Crane.
Lamesa saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Moreno, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Stanton's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 13-8. As for Lamesa, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
Stanton's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Buffaloes have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lamesa, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Stanton continue to outrun the ball?
Stanton couldn't quite get it done against Lamesa in their previous matchup on March 9th as they fell 5-2. Can the Buffaloes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
