Fairfax has gone a perfect 3-0 against North recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Stampede will head out to square off against the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Fairfax has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while North will arrive with four straight wins.
Fairfax fell victim to Ironwood and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 11-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Stampede were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, North made easy work of Metro Tech on Friday and carried off a 14-2 victory. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by ten runs or more this season.
Solis Coker made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).
In other batting news, Natalie Figueroa was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Damaris Gutierez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .378 or higher in four consecutive contests.
North pushed their record up to 8-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Fairfax, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fairfax hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like North struggles in that department as they've averaged .401. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Fairfax's way against North in their previous meeting back in February of 2018, as Fairfax made off with a 17-6 win. Will the Stampede repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
