The Hueytown Golden Gophers had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They greeted the New Year with with a 55-39 win over Bessemer City. The victory was just what Hueytown needed coming off of a 66-45 defeat in their prior contest.
Hueytown found their leader in underclassman Na' Kyrie Tolbert, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The matchup was Tolbert's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Joy Minniefield, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Hueytown's victory bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Bessemer City, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hueytown will take on Bessemer City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bessemer City is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. They won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Midfield at 2:00 p.m. on January 6th. Midfield presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Bessemer City in Alabama (Midfield is ranked 126th, while Bessemer City is ranked 305th).
