Patagonia extended their losing streak to 13 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-13 in the process. They came up short against the Duncan Wildkats, falling 16-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildkats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-3 back in March.
Patagonia saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was DJ Castro, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs. Another was Noah Gallardo, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Duncan, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-5. Considering they have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Duncan's side, Pablo Ruiz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ruiz was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ethan Hernandez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Duncan: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dayton Penry, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Looking ahead, Patagonia will host St. David at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Lobos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Duncan, they will venture away from home to challenge Baboquivari at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
