The Coventry Patriots will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Lyman Memorial Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Coventry is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Last Wednesday, Coventry faced Woodstock Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Coventry took a 47-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Woodstock Academy. That's two games in a row now that Coventry has lost by exactly six points.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Lyman Memorial had to settle for a 51-49 loss against Stonington on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lyman Memorial in their matchups with Stonington: they've now lost five in a row.
Lyman Memorial's defeat came about despite a quality game from Kevin Botticello , who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds. Botticello scored a full 46.9% of Lyman Memorial's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Owen Christiansen, who scored 11 points.
Coventry's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Lyman Memorial, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-3.
Coventry couldn't quite finish off Lyman Memorial in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 and fell 47-44. Thankfully for Coventry, Jaiden Lopez (who scored 27 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
