Meigs is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will welcome the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes at 5:00 p.m. Meigs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
Meigs is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Wahama, who was ranked sixth in their home state at the time (Meigs was ranked 16th). The Marauders fell just short of the White Falcons by a score of 9-8 on Tuesday. The Marauders haven't had much luck with the White Falcons recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Ava Horn and Jordin Davenport did some serious damage despite the final result: Horn went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Davenport went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Horn launched this season.
Meanwhile, Nelsonville-York got the win against Miller on Friday by a conclusive 17-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Buckeyes.
Lilly Gura made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Gura was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Nelsonville-York let Cam Jolley and Kylie Warren run wild. Jolley scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Warren went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. McKinley Nungester was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Nelsonville-York always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. The last time their OBP was this high was since the start of last season.
Meigs' defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Nelsonville-York, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Meigs took their win against Nelsonville-York when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 23-4 score. Do the Marauders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buckeyes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
