This season hasn't been kind to the Superior Panthers, who are still winless after their 11th matchup. They were dealt a 63-14 loss at the hands of Fort Thomas on Tuesday. Superior was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-6.
When it comes to explaining why Superior lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sussan Mancinas. Despite the final result, she scored nine points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Mancinas is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Even though they lost, Superior smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. This was only their eighth loss (out of eight games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Fort Thomas' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kirah Moses, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Moses has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tyesha Wilson, who scored 12 points along with five steals.
Superior's loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-11. As for Fort Thomas, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Superior will face off against Phoenix Day School for the Deaf at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Phoenix Day School for the Deaf comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Fort Thomas on the road again on Friday and play against Mogollon at 5:30 p.m. on January 12th. Mogollon is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
