The Coffee County Central Red Raiders will face off against Central Magnet at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Central Magnet will be up against a hot Coffee County Central team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. Coffee County Central came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against Loretto.
Coffee County Central got a great performance from Leiton Yancer as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Yancer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Kasen Morrison was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Colter Neel, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Central Magnet sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Shelbyville Central on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Central Magnet has posted against Shelbyville Central since April 10, 2015.
John Roth was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Roth was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Roth wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mitchell Coons, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Central Magnet's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Coffee County Central, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Coffee County Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Central Magnet struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Coffee County Central's way against Central Magnet in their previous matchup back in April of 2021, as Coffee County Central made off with a 10-2 win. Does Coffee County Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will Central Magnet turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
