The Heights Bulldogs will head out to take on the Lamar Texans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Heights is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
Heights had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Wisdom on Wednesday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Generals with a sharp 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won six matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Evelyn Tovar was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Carreon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .870. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 19 runs the game before, Lamar was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They lost 8-2 to Cesar E. Chavez. The Texans' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Clarissa Perez was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
Lamar's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Heights, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Heights hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Lamar struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Heights took their win against Lamar in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 16-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
