Conneaut is 1-7 against Edgewood since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Spartans will head out to challenge the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Conneaut is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on McKinley with a sharp 18-2 victory on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Lexi Brown made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Conneaut got a big performance out of Grace Todaro, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits Todaro has posted over her last 11 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Jones, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Conneaut was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Edgewood came tearing into Wednesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory.
The result came thanks to Lucianna Paolillo's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carly Tracy, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.
Edgewood's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Conneaut, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-14 record.
Conneaut might still be hurting after the 21-4 defeat they got from Edgewood in their previous matchup on Friday. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
