It was a good run, but the Carey Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 64-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Garden Valley. Carey was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Garden Valley apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Preston Wood, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Wood scored a full 26.9% of Carey's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Hagen Hennefer was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals.
Carey's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Garden Valley, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Carey and Mackay will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mackay is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Garden Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Camas County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
