Castor has gone 9-1 against Doyline recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Castor Tigers challenge Doyline Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Castor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
Castor took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Calvin, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Castor skirted past Calvin 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Erin Keel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jaidyn Smith and Kaylie Shirley did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while Shirley went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That double marked the first that Smith hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Braggs, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Castor lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Doyline got the win against Mansfield on Tuesday by a conclusive 17-8. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Wolverines recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Savannah Stanley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stanley was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, Doyline let Kaylee Johnson and Karmadie Bartlett run wild. Johnson went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run, while Bartlett scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Arianna Crump was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Castor now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Doyline, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Castor hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Doyline struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Castor's way against Doyline in their previous meeting back in February, as Castor made off with a 15-1 win. Does Castor have another victory up their sleeve, or will Doyline turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
