Baseball Recap: Hastings Drops Season-High Score on Lincoln Northwest

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hastings). They put the hurt on the Lincoln Northwest Falcons with a sharp 16-4 victory on Saturday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Hastings got a massive performance out of Isaiah Shaw, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those runs were Shaw's first of the season. Adam Rutt was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Shaw wasn't the only one making solid contact: Hastings kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Hastings is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Lincoln Northwest, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-7.

Looking ahead, Hastings will welcome Blair at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.25 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lincoln Northwest, they have already played their next game, a 15-4 loss against Waverly on the 12th.
