SouthWest Edgecombe is on a five-game streak of home wins, while West Craven is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars will take on the West Craven Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in SouthWest Edgecombe's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five games.
SouthWest Edgecombe stacked a fourth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They really took it to Washington for the full four quarters, racking up a 47-10 win on the road. Given SouthWest Edgecombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Washington is ranked 322nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jhakari Lovely, who rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Lovely was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Another player making a difference was Jalen Willoughby, who rushed for 85 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, even though North Pitt scored an imposing 38 points on Thursday, West Craven still came out on top. West Craven took their match against North Pitt 50-38.
West Craven's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from DJ Davis, who threw for 235 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Malik Brown, who gained 144 total yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 7-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. SouthWest Edgecombe has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 311.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like West Craven struggles in that department as they've been averaging 175.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
SouthWest Edgecombe ended up a good deal behind West Craven when the teams last played back in October of 2022, losing 21-7. Will SouthWest Edgecombe have more luck at home instead of on the road?
