The Clinton Red Devils will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Chester Cyclones at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Chester took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Clinton, who comes in off a win.
Clinton put the finishing touches on their 11th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Woodruff with a sharp 44-18 win. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 4 on the offensive boards, as Clinton did.
Clinton found their leader in underclassman Mylayja Thompson, who scored eight points along with nine steals and five rebounds. Thompson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenzie Clark, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Chester's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They took a 54-39 bruising from Woodruff.
Clinton pushed their record up to 16-5 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Chester, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
Everything came up roses for Clinton against the Cyclones in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 58-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clinton since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
