This season hasn't been kind to the Salem Baptist Christian Vikings, who are still winless after their 12th contest. They took a 62-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Surry HomeSchool on Friday. Salem Baptist Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Surry HomeSchool apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Salem Baptist Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Garrett Trinkle. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. Trinkle scored a full 43.1% of Salem Baptist Christian's points, the ninth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Eli Hedrick, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Salem Baptist Christian were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Tyler Spence was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 21 rebounds for Surry HomeSchool. The contest was Spence's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Hayden Williams was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds.
Salem Baptist Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Surry HomeSchool, their victory bumped their record up to 9-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salem Baptist Christian and Hickory Christian Academy will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hickory Christian Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Salem Baptist Christian in North Carolina (Hickory Christian Academy is ranked 313th, while Salem Baptist Christian is ranked 650th). Surry HomeSchool will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sheets Memorial Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th.
