Basketball Recap: St. John Bosco Falls Short in Nationally-Ranked Matchup

St. John Bosco and Santa Margarita (ranked 15th and 60th in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile game on Monday. The St. John Bosco Braves were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 67-66 to the Santa Margarita Eagles. It was the first time this season that the Braves let down their fans at home.

Several Braves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elzie Harrington, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 19 points along with six assists and four steals. Harrington has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Brandon McCoy Jr was another key player, going 7 of 11 en route to 15 points and three steals.

St. John Bosco's defeat ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 21-4. As for Santa Margarita, their win bumped their record up to 18-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. John Bosco will host Servite at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in St. John Bosco's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 12 matches. As for Santa Margarita, they will welcome Orange Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Margarita is facing Orange Lutheran at the right time seeing as Orange Lutheran is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
