Excel Christian is 1-9 against Pyramid Lake since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Excel Christian Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Pyramid Lake Lakers at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Excel Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday.
Excel Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Whittell 63-24 on the road. Excel Christian pushed the score to 53-21 by the end of the third, a deficit Whittell had no chance of recovering from.
Mark Doerfler was his usual excellent self, scoring 35 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Keegan Davis, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 77-46, which was the final score in Pyramid Lake's tilt against Virginia City on Saturday. Pyramid Lake has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Takoda Rivers, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Warren Christy, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
The win got Excel Christian back to even at 10-10. As for Pyramid Lake, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-12.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Excel Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Pyramid Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Excel Christian might still be hurting after the 56-31 defeat they got from Pyramid Lake when the teams last played two weeks ago. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Excel Christian was down 38-12.
