Basketball Recap: Zulema Montoya's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Proviso East over Hinsdale South

Proviso East lost against Hinsdale South back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The matchup between the Proviso East Pirates and the Hinsdale South Hornets didn't end well, with the Proviso East Pirates falling 52-34.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zulema Montoya, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds. That's the most rebounds Montoya has posted since back in November of 2023. Ava Kimble was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Proviso East smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Maeve Savage continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hinsdale South, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 15 boards. Savage has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hailey Goins, who put up 18 points and five assists.

Proviso East's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Hinsdale South, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Proviso East will take on Berwyn/Cicero Morton in a holiday battle at at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hinsdale South and Addison Trail will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hinsdale South is facing Addison Trail at the right time seeing as Addison Trail is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
