Marya Hicks made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hicks was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Cyeanna Delva was incredible, scoring four runs while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. Brianna Machado was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Coral Reef, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They never let Hialeah get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Barracudas needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Like Hialeah-Miami Lakes, Coral Reef also got a great game from a two-way player: Avery Clegg. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Clegg was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Katerina Chirinos and Chloe Junco did most of the damage at the plate: Chirinos scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1, while Junco scored two runs while going 1-for-1. Another player making a difference was Brianna Fields, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Hialeah-Miami Lakes pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Coral Reef, their record is now 15-5.
Both Hialeah-Miami Lakes and Coral Reef just can't seem to miss. The Trojans have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Coral Reef struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
