The George West Longhorns will face off against the Santa Rosa Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as George West comes in on seven and Santa Rosa on four.
George West is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Banquete: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Longhorns blew the Bulldogs out of the water with a 71-6 final score. The Longhorns might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 24 points or more this season.
Kohen Blount was his usual excellent self, rushing for 147 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 64 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: George West was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 479 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 327 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Santa Rosa hadn't done well against Taft recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Warriors enjoyed a cozy 21-7 victory over the Greyhounds.
Santa Rosa's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Fabian Anaya and Juan Flores, who racked up all six sacks between them. With that strong performance, Flores is now averaging an impressive 5.3 total tackles per game.
Santa Rosa's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for George West, their victory bumped their record up to 7-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. George West has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 444.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Santa Rosa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 226.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for George West against Santa Rosa in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 44-16 win. Will the Longhorns repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
