The Cuthbertson Cavaliers won the last time they faced the Weddington Warriors, and things went their way on Friday too. Cuthbertson managed a 42-38 win over Weddington.
Cuthbertson found their leader in underclassman Christian Mundy, who scored 19 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mundy has scored at least a third of Cuthbertson's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Johnson, who scored eight points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Weddington lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bailey Page. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Page has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times she's played. Natalie Poole was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Cuthbertson's win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-15. As for Weddington, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cuthbertson will challenge Butler at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Butlerpresents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cuthbertson in North Carolina (Butler is ranked 102nd, while Cuthbertson is ranked 227th). Weddington will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Monroe at 6:00 p.m. on February 12th. Monroe will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 451st, while Weddington is ranked 185th).
