Pine River-Backus has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Sebeka Trojans at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Pine River-Backus knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Sebeka likes a good challenge.
Pine River-Backus pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 71-57 fall against Bertha-Hewitt.
Meanwhile, Sebeka's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They lost to Underwood on the road by a decisive 58-44 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sebeka in their matchups with Underwood: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Sebeka saw an underclassman step up: Max Lake scored 14 points along with nine steals. Lake is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Zack Thornton was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Pine River-Backus has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Sebeka, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-7.
Everything came up roses for Pine River-Backus against Sebeka when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 85-27 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pine River-Backus since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
