Godley has gone a perfect 9-0 against Hillsboro recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. The last six games Godley has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Tuesday, Godley needed a bit of extra time to put away Kennedale. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Kennedale 4-3. The game was the first time Godley has beaten Kennedale on their field since May 19, 2018.
Jackson Duke looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Byron McClure, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Adam Pempsell, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Hillsboro fell victim to Kennedale and their airtight pitching crew last Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Wildcats. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Godley pushed their record up to 25-5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Hillsboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-16.
Hillsboro's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Godley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. It's a different story for Hillsboro, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Godley's hitters?
Everything went Godley's way against Hillsboro when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Godley made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
