Granite Hills are taking a road trip to square off against Southwest EC at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
Granite Hills came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 9-2 to Santana. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Sultans: they've now lost three in a row.
Granite Hills saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Nash, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Iliana Cruse was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Southwest EC let Palo Verde Valley stack four runs on them in the fifth inning last Thursday but luckily Southwest EC prevailed anyway. The Eagles skirted past the Yellow Jackets 7-6. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Yellow Jackets: they've now won eight in a row.
Kaydence Wiewel was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Alyana Aguirre, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Southwest EC was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Granite Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Southwest EC, their win bumped their record up to 12-9-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Granite Hills hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Southwest EC struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Granite Hills skirted past Southwest EC 8-6 in their previous matchup back in March of 2016. Will Granite Hills repeat their success, or does Southwest EC has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
