4A Region I District 5 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Brewer moved up to 290 from 326 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 5. The Bears climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Denton 45-13.
Rider extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Azle, 29-22. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
The Hornets' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Corbyn Koiner threw for 150 and one touchdown and Nolan Harris had 72 yards receiving. On the ground Hunter McDonald chipped in 120 yards. James Norwood helped Azle's passing attack out by catching three balls for 57 yards.
The Broncos' Cy Ward and Ke' von Buris have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Ward has thrown for 1250 yards this season, while Buris has 22 catches for 379 yards. Azle's McDonald leads the league in rushing yards with 803.
A big matchup in 4A Region I District 5 this week will be when Guyer takes on Rider. At the moment, the Wildcats are in third, while the Raiders are in first.
Guyer led the league in scoring this week after putting up 63 points on Lake Dallas.
