Abilene is on a 13-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Coahoma is on a 31-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Eagles will host the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Abilene 2.5, Coahoma 0.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Abilene proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 16) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Wylie. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.
Avah Reyes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kinzley Cantu, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Alicia Gutierrez was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Coahoma never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Compass Academy with a sharp 15-0 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 20 games by seven runs or more this season.
Hannah Wells and Avery Rodriguez were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Wells tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Rodriguez tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Wells scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Rodriguez scored a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Coahoma let Addi Hart and Baylor Wright run wild. Hart scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Wright scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave Wright a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Blakeley Rodgers, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Coahoma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in 15 consecutive matches.
Abilene's victory bumped their record up to 16-7. As for Coahoma, their win bumped their record up to 25-0.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Abilene hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Coahoma struggles in that department as they've averaged .509. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
