The Hollins Royals came into Thursday's game having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They secured a 30-24 W over Northeast on Thursday. Hollins pushed the score to 25-5 by the end of the third, a deficit Northeast cut but never quite recovered from.
Hollins found their leader in underclassman Summer Morgan, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Morgan hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Danaja Moss was another key contributor, scoring four points along with nine rebounds.
Northeast's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kayley Missory, who scored four points along with nine rebounds, and McKinley Joseph who scored seven points. Missory has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played.
Hollins' victory ended a 17-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-13. As for Northeast, their defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-11.
Hollins won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Gibbs at 8:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Hollins focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday. As for Northeast, they will head out on the road to challenge Calvary Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calvary Christian's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Northeast's offense will have their work cut out for them.
