Kennedy has gone a perfect 10-0 against Hubbard recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Crusaders will take on the Greyhounds at 4:30 p.m.
Shepard hit Kennedy with a four-run fourth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Crusaders came up short against the Astros, falling 11-3. The Crusaders haven't had much luck with the Astros recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Luke Zavala was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Hubbard came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Bobcats get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won ten games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Ricardo Romo made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Hubbard let Luis Bautista and Jaden Rodriguez run wild. Bautista went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Rodriguez went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Rodriguez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Serafin Millan, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Hubbard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .438 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Kennedy's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Hubbard, their record is now 10-2-1.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Kennedy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .542. However, it's not like Hubbard struggles in that department as they've averaged .583. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kennedy took their victory against Hubbard in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Greyhounds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
