The Franklin-Simpson Wildcats put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 67-58 victory over Daviess County. Given Franklin-Simpson's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Daviess County is ranked 43rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for LaReesha Cawthorn, who almost dropped a triple-double on 23 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals. Those nine steals set a new season-high mark for her. Vanessa Ray was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds.
Daviess County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lily Hoagland, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. Hoagland continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Lane, who scored 21 points.
Daviess County struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Franklin-Simpson pulled down 19 offensive rebounds.
Franklin-Simpson's victory bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Daviess County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Franklin-Simpson is on the road again on Friday and play against Todd County Central at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. Todd County Central will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Daviess County and Edmonson County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Edmonson County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
