AAA Region 4 recap November 5, 2013
Callaway extended the longest winning streak in AAA Region 4 this week by beating Douglass, 48-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Central and Chapel Hill played the closest game in the league this week, with Central eventually emerging with a 34-28 victory. Wesley Long threw for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 39 yards during the win.
Jackson's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Keenan Moore threw for 206 and 2 touchdowns and Orenzo Smith had 175 yards receiving. On the ground Moore chipped in 158 yards. Raheim Gusta helped Jackson's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 21 yards.
Aaron Smith was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Lions topped the Panthers. The 6-foot-2 defensive end recorded 1 fumble.
He was 11-17 with 3 interceptions.
Moore put up the best numbers in passing as the Jaguars beat Haralson County. Moore's favorite target this week was Smith, who caught 6 passes for 175 yards.
Jackson's Moore and Smith led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Moore has thrown for 2,503 yards this season, while Smith has 46 catches for 1,204 yards. Business Engineering Science Tech's Deshawn Waller leads the league in rushing yards with 1,271.
An important game coming up in AAA Region 4 this week will be when Rockmart takes on Callaway. The Yellowjackets are in sixth place, while Pete Wiggins' team is in first place.
The Eagles made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,503 from 5,847. The advance stemmed from a 20-0 victory over Rockmart last week.
