The Bellville Brahmas will face off against the Jasper Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Bellville sitting on 13 straight victories and Jasper on three.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Bellville had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 61-7 win over the Tigers. Fans of Bellville have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bellville to victory, but perhaps none more so than DD Murray, who rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Murray is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last seven games he's played. Bellville also got a significant boost from Corrian Hood, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.
Meanwhile, Jasper stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. Everything went their way against Cuero as Jasper made off with a 28-7 victory.
Jasper's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zykeelan Hadnot, who rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Raja Garza-Adams, who picked up 48 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Bellville's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 49.91 points. As for Jasper, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as Bellville and Jasper have no problem gaining yardage. Bellville has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 427.9 total yards per game. However, it's not like Jasper struggles in that department as they've been averaging 395.8 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other football content.
Bellville strolled past Jasper when the teams last played back in November of 2019 by a score of 54-35. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Jasper's Carl Limbrick, who gained 210 total yards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Bellville to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
