Softball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Elida

Elida won the last time they faced Shawnee and things went their way on Monday too. The Bulldogs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Indians an 11-0 shutout. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by eight runs or more this season.

Lilly Sifrit made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Jackson, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Carly Chiles was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Elida, bringing their record up to 6-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Shawnee, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elida will face off against Ottawa-Glandorf at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shawnee, they will challenge Jefferson at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
