Basketball Recap: Thomas Jefferson Takes a Loss

Thomas Jefferson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 52-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Regis Groff Fusion. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Fusion apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Thomas Jefferson lost, don't look at Leyna McClinon. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave McClinon a new career-high in blocks (four). Anisa Adrovic was another key player, putting up eight points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Thomas Jefferson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Regis Groff can attribute much of their success to Alexandria Mims, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 boards. Mims has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madina Ibrahim, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 21 points and eight rebounds.

Thomas Jefferson's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Regis Groff, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season.

Thomas Jefferson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-15 win against Hinkley on the 23rd. As for Regis Groff, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 32-22 victory against Addenbrooke Classical Academy on the 23rd.
