Estacado has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Canyon Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Estacado had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Bowie 45-3 at home. Estacado might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won eight matches by 20 points or more this season.
James Bozeman and Cedric Ross were among the main playmakers for Estacado as the former rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries and the latter rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown. Ross really tore up the turf during one magnificent 83-yard run. Luis Gomez made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, even though Wichita Falls scored an imposing 33 points on Thursday, Canyon still came out on top. Canyon took down Wichita Falls 51-33. Given Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 301st, while Wichita Falls is ranked 617th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Canyon relied on the efforts of Ryan Rivera, who rushed for 165 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.3 yards per carry, and Christian Mcguire, who rushed for 155 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.0 yards per carry. Mcguire hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games.
Estacado is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Canyon, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2.
Estacado couldn't quite finish off Canyon in their previous meeting back in September of 2021 and fell 16-13. Thankfully for Estacado, Dario Bressler (who rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
