Millbrook had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Wakefield Wolverines, falling 16-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 back in March.
Brynn Herman was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two doubles. Nicole Drew was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.
As for Wakefield, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.
On Wakefield's side, Kensley Harrison was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Harrison was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Aniela Piscorik looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Emily Fernandez, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Riehle, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Millbrook has already played their next contest, a 16-1 victory against Knightdale on the 21st. As for Wakefield, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-10 win against Heritage on the 21st.
