Minico has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Skyline Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Minico focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Minico beat Twin Falls 53-45.
Minico relied on the efforts of Jentree Bott, who scored 14 points, and Carlie Latta, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. That makes it 21 consecutive games in which Latta has scored at least a third of Minico's points.
Meanwhile, Skyline faced Blackfoot in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Skyline walked away with a 50-39 victory over Blackfoot on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Skyline.
Shay Shippen was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 17 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last nine times she's played. Mady Boyce was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two blocks.
Minico's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6. As for Skyline, their win bumped their record up to 17-7.
Thursday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Latta and Shippen. Latta has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 28.2 points, 3 steals, and 4.9 assists. For her part, Shippen has averaged 23.8 points, 2.4 steals, and 12.9 rebounds.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Minico have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Skyline struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
