It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Lassiter Trojans ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past Alexander 55-53. For Lassiter, this counts as revenge for the 55-46 loss Alexander walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2021.
Leading Lassiter to victory were Malia Loadwick and Claire Mackenny. Loadwick scored 18 points along with six rebounds, while Mackenny scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Loadwick scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Wyman, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Despite the defeat, Alexander saw an underclassman step up: Nimah Ibidunni scored 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Isabella Italiano, who scored 21 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Lassiter has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Alexander, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.
Lassiter won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Spencer at 1:00 p.m. on December 30th. Spencer is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.7 points per game. Alexander won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Harrison at 10:00 a.m. on December 30th. Harrison presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Alexander in Georgia (Harrison is ranked 31st, while Alexander is ranked 105th).
