The Alief Hastings Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 48-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Alief Taylor. While losing is never fun, Alief Hastings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1002nd, while Alief Taylor is ranked 292nd).
When it comes to explaining why Alief Hastings lost, one person who can't be blamed is Giovanni Bernal. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him.
Nathan Kongolo was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds for Alief Taylor. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kongolo has scored at least 25% of Alief Taylor's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mar'jon Leon, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Alief Hastings has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Alief Taylor, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alief Hastings will challenge Alief Elsik at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Alief Elsik focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for Alief Taylor, they will head out on the road to face off against Strake Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
