University Liggett extended the longest winning streak in Michigan Independent this week by beating Lutheran Northwest, 33-14. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
The Crusaders moved up to 377 from 419 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Lutheran Northwest was able to make the jump by falling to University Liggett 33-14.
Lou Ray's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nate Gaggin threw for 247 and four touchdowns and Drew Jerome had 132 yards receiving. On the ground Gaggin chipped in 158 yards. Kevaughn Jackson helped University Liggett's passing attack out by catching five balls for 58 yards.
University Liggett's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Knights feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Gaggin has thrown for 1794 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, while Jerome has 46 catches for 720 yards. Gaggin also leads the league in rushing with 849 yards.
Southfield Christian and Inkster played the most hotly contested game in Michigan Independent this week, with Southfield Christian eventually emerging with a 21-18 victory.
