Salpointe Catholic has gone a perfect 7-0 against Notre Dame Prep recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Lancers will host the Saints at 12:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Salpointe Catholic comes in on 11 and Notre Dame Prep on three.
If Salpointe Catholic beats Notre Dame Prep with 12 runs on Saturday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Lancers never let Sahuarita get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Friday. Considering the Lancers have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ernesto Bojorquez looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Johnny Abramian and David Driskill did most of the damage at the plate: Abramian scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Driskill scored two runs while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Driskill a new career-high in doubles (two). Anthony Milo was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Salpointe Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Prep posted their closest win since March 17th on Friday. They skirted past Chaparral 3-1.
Ashton Higgins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Notre Dame Prep's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 6-11 when he doesn't).
At the plate, Jace Terry was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Owen Boeding, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Salpointe Catholic pushed their record up to 16-0-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Notre Dame Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.
Salpointe Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Notre Dame Prep when the teams last played back in May of 2022, sneaking past 7-6. Do the Lancers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Saints turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
