Sewickley Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Everything went their way against St. Joseph as Sewickley Academy made off with a 55-32 win. Given Sewickley Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 343rd, while St. Joseph is ranked 706th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, St. Joseph still got an impressive performance from Gabe Maltese, who scored 19 points along with two steals. That was a full 59.4% of St. Joseph's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Cole Spencer, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Sewickley Academy pushed their record up to 10-5 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for St. Joseph, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-14.
Sewickley Academy will take on Northgate at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Northgate has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 283 points over their last four contests. As for St. Joseph, St. Joseph and Imani Christian Academy will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Nate Brazil and Maltese.
